Emu in a Stew

Off a tangent of the bison story, I've read a newspaper article Friday stating that an emu (yes an emu) was found dead in Haverhill, Massachusetts and had tested positive for eastern equine encephalitis. Now don't get me wrong, I do indeed think that it is a sad matter that the emu, which was someone's pet had died. I just find it interesting to see that as of late I am hearing about all these 'exotic' animals in the news. No need for world travel if you want to study wildlife, just come to New England!

Hrm, did I ever tell you the one about the llamas that live down the road?

The New Season

I went to a rock and mineral show today, put on by a local club. Overall it is a fairly nice show. It did seem a bit off balance this year, seeming to be very heavy on ready made jewelry. Between that and cut stones, and 'gift items', it left very little room for any rock and minerals. Granted there were a fair amount, but not quite the quantity that I hoped to see. I still get sticker shock even looking at the inexpensive items, as I equate pricing with things in my mind from years ago.

The thing that surprises me is that I could not spot there a single item that I would want to put into my mineral collection, not one. I wonder if this is a sign that I am now a seasoned collector.

What's Roaming?--News Flash

I understand (remember this is all heresay) that there was a man transporting a bison near the interection of route 495 and the Massachusetts turnpike. The bisson escaped and was running against traffic in the breakdown lane. The farmer's last name was Farmer. Neat. Mr Farmer, the farmer returned and shot the animal.

ac died

I was busy out in the kitchen and all of a sudden..POP!!! Some miniature explosion in my bedroom, that sounded something like popping a small plastic bag. I ran into the room thinking something fell off the wall or a shelf. Nope. Looked out all the bedroom windows nothing seemed to have happened outside the house.

I went back to my work in the kitchen. I later entered my bedroom and discovered that my air conditioner was no longer working. That's what that noise was!

My remaining air conditioner works well, but simply does not have the power to cool the whole house. One consolation is summer is coming to a close.
